Dear ........,
There was an environmental film festival here in Washington DC during the last two weeks. I looked at four films, most of them well worth watching. One I particularly liked was titled “The Lord God Bird” about the ivory-billed woodpecker. This species of American bird was declared extinct in 1944, but has been seen by reputable bird experts in the last several years. The problem is, the more people try to photograph it to prove its existence, the more it retreats from humans, and the possibilities to “prove” its existence become vanishingly small.
The bird makes me think of you. Once in a blue moon, you pop into view. Then I interact with you and you retreat to parts unknown and for long periods of time. You are the mysterious Soemarsono bird.
I mentioned in my last email that spring was here and that the cherry trees are beginning to bloom. Here is one that is blooming just around the corner from where I live. Salam hangat,
Will
P.S.: Please remove yourself from the list of extinct species, and also from the endangered species list!
